Mother Nature's Delicacy

We tend to take so many things in life for granted especially the elements in the macrocosm of Mother Nature. In the last two hundred years with the development of a worldwide societal infrastructure we have repeatedly crossed the boundaries of common sense. We have nearly depleted many species of fish and mammals while at the same time clear cutting our forests and polluting our oceans, rivers and lakes. Global warming has brought about disastrous changes in weather patterns and increased the number of violent weather storms such as the recent hurricane disasters.
Nonetheless while we are picking fruits and vegetables in our Peace Arch City backyards we can see nature busily at work and find harmony with our actions and those of other animals and insects. While I was standing on a ladder I contemplated the number of apples already half eaten and still on the tree. Again I became aware of how many creatures, myself included, share in the harvest of this natural delicacy. Assorted birds while gorging on the ripe fruit create a gourmet treat for numerous bugs, even this tiny ant who dared to make a long arduous climb from the ground up.
When we reach out and embrace our neighbors we see pictures that enhance everyday life in our own international community.
